The Ultimate Peace

The Ultimate Peace

If you’ve read or listened to the news anytime in the past year you would know that we are in the middle of one of the biggest and most contentious campaign seasons our country has ever experienced. Because I’m such a news junkie, I’ve been following¬†all the coverage for the last few months. I even listen to cable news on satellite radio in my car.

Unless you keep your head buried in the sand there is no escaping the constant news reports. We’ve been bombarded by messages from the candidates that are meant to inspire, but sometimes they provoke anger, discouragement, and frustration. It seems like the world is in shambles and there is no hope for peace.

Thankfully, though, the opposite is true. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross we can have peace.

If I could sum up in one statement what I believe is the true remedy for all the chaos in this world, it would be this:

We need more of the Bible and less of the world.

Or, another way to say it would be, we need to leave Facebook behind and get into God’s book.

Maybe we need to turn off the news and the commentary and get our thoughts focused on what God has to say.

My favorite Bible verse is found in Romans 5:1:

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the ultimate peace we should pursue. Peace with God by trusting in Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. We don’t do this by our works, though. It’s only through faith that we can obtain this peace.

I challenge you to look within and acknowledge whether or not you have placed your trust in Jesus. Maybe your salvation experience happened years or even decades ago but you have not been following after Jesus as closely as you should.

Spend some time in prayer and ask God to show you how He wants you to pursue peace in your life.
