The Surprising Reason You Should Set Goals Now

Why wait until January 1 to start over on your goals? Take action now to end the year on a positive note by setting and achieving goals.

I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. On one hand, I love the change in seasons and the upcoming holidays. On the other hand, I get frustrated because new planners and goal setting systems are being released. I just want to move ahead into the new year so I can start over.

Do you ever feel the same way?

Well guess what…you don’t have to wait until January 1 to begin setting goals.

Just think, as of today, there are 60 days left in the year. Maybe you have goals for the rest of the year you are already working on. However, if you’re like me, you may not have made as much progress on your goals as you’d like. With 60 days left in the year, though, there is still time to set a few new goals and set yourself up for success in the new year.

Yes, I know the holidays tend to make it more difficult to set and reach goals. But I think if you are strategic about which goals to pursue, it is totally doable.

Here are a few pointers to help you set achievable goals for the next 60 days:

Don’t be too ambitious.

It’s tempting to rattle off 10 goals that are completely worthwhile, but it’s not realistic to think you could accomplish all of them in 60 days. Unless they are goals that could be completed quickly, you will probably want to narrow them down to 2-5 good solid goals that you are apt to reach.

Don’t be shy.

On the other hand, though, don’t shy away from a challenge. Sometimes when we give ourselves a tighter deadline, it it much easier to complete a more challenging goal. I know when I set a big goal at the beginning of the year, I tend to procrastinate thinking I have all year to get it done. With just 60 days to complete a goal, you may find yourself having greater success in achieving it.

Pick goals that reflect your priorities.

There are probably dozens of goals you could choose from that would make your life much better if you achieved them. However, it’s important to step back and take a look at what really matters most in your life right now. Choose goals that will make the most impact in your life right now.

Maybe you are thinking about putting your home up for sale in the spring. Now would be a good time, as you are preparing for the holidays, to declutter your home and get rid of things you don’t need anymore. Setting a goal to have your home decluttered by the end of the year will not only help when you try to sell your home, but it will help your home be more inviting and welcoming for the holidays.

The goals I’m focusing on for the next 60 days are cleaning out my craft room/office and creating new routines and systems to help me be more productive.

What about you? What can you do in the next 60 days that will end your year on a positive note and set yourself up for success for the new year?
