A Simple Way to Celebrate Your Successes Every Day

A Simple Way to Celebrate Your Successes Every Day title

I don’t know about you, but I can always use a little encouragement. Let’s face it. Our days are filled with many mundane tasks as well as unexpected interruptions. Some days we even receive bad news. So, I think it’s important we find ways to be encouraged.

Every day we accomplish more than we think we do. However, it’s hard to see sometimes when you feel overloaded with responsibilities.

That’s where celebrating our successes comes in. We need to find a way to applaud our successes, both big and small, on a regular basis.

I’m not saying we should do this to brag on ourselves. Quite the opposite. Celebrating our successes gives us the opportunity to give glory to God for how He has been at work in our lives.

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Psalm 115:1 ESV

So, how can we celebrate our successes every day?

Write them down!

In past years, I’ve kept a prayer journal. This year, however, I am trying something new. I’m keeping a general journal about what goes on in my life. Sometimes I’ll write how I feel about something or will share what I am specifically praying for. Mostly, though, I am using the journal to keep me productive.

I write in my journal in the mornings. I list out the things I need to do that day. Mostly it’s a recap of my to-do list from my planner. However, I’ll often include items such as drink 8 glasses of water, or something that I wouldn’t normally have on my to-do list.

Then the next day when I write, I list out what I call my “wins” from the day before. Even if I don’t get everything done that I had listed, I still write out what I did get accomplished. Sometimes I end up doing things that were not on my to-do list and I’ll share those as well.

I feel like when I do this, I get a greater sense of what I’ve truly accomplished versus just checking items off a list.

And, I begin to notice patterns when I don’t get everything done. Sometimes I’ll discover I had too much on my plate the day before. Or I’ll realize that I’m getting distracted by the same thing over and over again.

Once I recognize my patterns of behavior, I can then make adjustments so that I won’t be distracted or pile too many things on my plate.

Maybe you don’t like to write. That’s ok. You can still benefit from writing out a to-do list and then celebrate what you got done for the day. You can also take stock of your day and think about where you got distracted or how you may have underestimated the time it would take to do certain tasks.

No matter how you choose to celebrate your successes, I encourage you to do just that. Celebrate your successes!

Success builds upon success. Keep it up and you will begin to get more done and find peace in what you are doing.

What do you do to celebrate your successes?
