Saving Your Sanity–How One Small Change Can Make a Difference

Saving Your Sanity

When I consider the things I want to do in my life, I often think about the big things. I feel like it’s usually the big things I do that make the most impact.

This week I’ve discovered that really it’s just the opposite. I learned how making one small change in my life could make a huge difference in what I’m able to do.

I have been working part-time outside the home for almost 1 1/2 years. When I started out, I worked only on Mondays and Tuesdays. A couple of months later I added Friday mornings. That worked well for me and my family for a while. However, several months ago I began to realize that if I wanted to grow this blog and start a life coaching business, I would need all the time I could get to work on it.

I love my part-time job. It’s with my church, and I love getting to interact with other adults a couple of days a week. I really feel like I’m helping out and making a difference. It’s also how I’m able to fund what I need to do to grow my blog and business until it takes off!

Finally this week I had a chance to talk with my supervisor and share how I wanted to stop working on Friday mornings. She was very agreeable, so now I’m officially off on Fridays.

Now that I have my Friday mornings back, I’m able to work on a schedule that will allow me to grow my blog and business. Just making the small change of cutting out one day of work will help save my sanity in the weeks and months to come.

I know that cutting back on one day of work may not seem small to you. It may be huge in your eyes. However, when you think about that I was only working 3 1/2 to 4 hours, it really wasn’t that much.

When you are trying to reach your goals, it’s hard to see the end sometimes. Often the lists of tasks needed to reach those goals can be overwhelming.

If you are trying to move forward on your goals and just can’t seem to get anywhere, think about what small changes you can make that would save your sanity and make a difference.

Here are a few examples:

  • Needing to lose weight? Try eating fruit or vegetables for a snack before you reach for anything else.
  • Want to get in shape? Tweak your schedule so you can start with 15 minutes of exercise a few days a week.
  • Want to start a blog or write a book? Get up early and work for an hour before everyone else gets up.
  • Can’t get all your housework done? Figure out how you can delegate some of the work.

What are some small changes you’ve made in your life that have made a difference for you?
