Living Generously-August Scripture Writing Plan

I’m sure you’ll agree that living generously is one of the hallmarks of a Christian’s lifestyle. In fact, there are numerous references in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments, that not only encourage but command us to live generously.

This does not always mean it’s about giving of our money. Living generously also means giving of our time, gifts and abilities, and sometimes even our possessions.

One of the most delightful examples of generosity that I have recently experienced happened just this week at Vacation Bible School.

Each year, the kids bring an offering for missions. Sometimes we collect money. Other times we collect items. This year we are collecting food to go to local food banks.

Of course, an element of competition is involved. You know, a boys versus girls kind of thing. However, you can see how excited and happy they are when they realize just how much has been collected and how it will impact families in our local community.

On Wednesday of this week, I believe just about every kid that was in attendance ran down the aisles of the sanctuary to put their food donations in the proper place. It was such a joy to see them participating in the act of giving.

Oh, I know, the parents were the ones who either gave out of their pantry or bought the food. But I know these kids are learning a valuable truth from Jesus’ own words from Acts 20:35:

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

I encourage you this month as we write out verses about living generously to ask God to open your eyes to the needs around you. They don’t necessarily have to be physical needs. It’s quite possible that God will lead you to a friend who needs a listening ear or heart-to-heart talk.

Or perhaps He will show you where your gifts and talents could be used to further His Kingdom, but it may mean you have to step outside of your comfort zone.

Whatever it is that God has called you to do, be brave and go do it!
