I struggle with making peace with my closet. Getting dressed each day is often difficult.
Many mornings I look in my closet full of clothes and say to myself, “I don’t have anything to wear.”
Can you relate?
While I have a lot of clothes, most either do not fit well or are not what I’m looking for on a particular day. It’s very frustrating sometimes because I end up wearing the same things over and over again.
I’m at the point in my life where I don’t even like going shopping for clothes because it has become such a chore. It seems that no two clothing lines size their garments the same way. I can wear sizes ranging from 6 to 14 depending on the brand.
A couple of years ago I came across a different way to acquire new clothing. It’s called Stitch Fix. You may have heard of this company before. If you haven’t, here is a little information about them.
Stitch Fix is an online company that specializes in sending shipments (or Fixes) of clothing to women of all ages, sizes, and shapes. When you first sign up, you take a personal style quiz so they will know the types of clothing you are interested in. Then they send you five pieces of clothing to try on. You send back what you don’t like in a postage paid envelope and keep the rest. You are only charged for what you keep.
Your only cost is a $20 styling fee that is credited to your bill if you keep at least one item. If you keep all 5, then you receive a 25% discount on the whole order.
Stitch Fix has totally changed the way I do my shopping and fill my closet with clothes I actually love and wear. In fact, I’ve gotten rid of a ton of clothes that no longer work for me as I get new clothes from my Fixes.

I love this entire outfit. Everything is so comfortable yet stylish.
You may be wondering if Stitch Fix will work for you. Let me share some pros and cons so you can decide for yourself if this is something that will help you make peace with your closet.
I don’t have to go to a store and try things on.
I don’t have to go to a store and try things on. I love that new items come to me once a month. I have three days to try them on and decide what I’m going to keep and what I’m going to send back.
As I mentioned above, I can wear many different sizes depending on the brand. So, I was worried at first that this service would not be able to give me the true sizes I needed. I have been pleasantly surprised how true to size most of the items have been. While there have been a few exceptions, most of the clothes have fit well.
I get to try new styles.
Many of the clothing pieces I’ve received are items I probably would not have looked twice at in a store. Once I tried them on though, I realized how much I liked the style, cut, or color. I love branching out from what I would traditionally buy if I were shopping in a store.
One of the great things about Stitch Fix is their return system. Each shipment comes with a postage paid envelope in which you can mail back any items that do not work for you. It’s hassle-free, and I’ve never had an issue with them not receiving it.
I can request specific kinds of clothing.
I’ve used my stylist at Stitch Fix to find me specific items for events I had coming up. I just told her about the event and what I was looking for, and she included the perfect dress in my next Fix.
It can sometimes be pricey.
On average, I usually pay between $100-$200 for 5 pieces. But I’ve also paid a lot less and I’ve paid a little more. You can tell them your budget on your style profile, and they will try to stay within it, though.
Also, you have an opportunity to rate each item when you check out. So, if you think the item was priced too high, let them know.
The sizes don’t always work.
Now that I have been buying from Stitch Fix for almost 2 years, the sizes generally work for me. However, it was not always the case in the beginning. It does take some time for them to figure out the sizes you need for different types of clothing.
If an item you like doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange for the exact same item.
I’ve had a few pairs of pants that I really liked but did not fit. Because their inventory is always changing, they don’t keep the same items in stock all the time.
My stylist tried to find me a comparable pair, though, for my next Fix. It would have been nice to exchange for the exact pair, but I understand why they can’t do that.
Getting your style just right takes some time.
Even though I love trying new styles, I’ve received a few items that were definitely not my style and did not look good on me. The good news, though, is that they really work to make sure you have items that you really like. I’ve had the same stylist for about a year and a half, so she really knows me well.
Overall, I would say I’ve kept about 75% of the items I’ve received over the last couple of years. It has definitely been worth my time and money to shop for clothes this way. And Stitch Fix has helped me to make peace with my closet.
